absolutely cool! would also love to know how that's accomplished without photoshop :p – admin Oct 24 at 22:33
Not quite recursive, as eventually, the picture in a picture can't be reproduced. I've seen actual recursive shots done with complex mirror networks. What you're looking at is some really cool post processing creativity at play. +1 – Tim Post Nov 20 at 15:49
What is really cool is in example #1, the filter effects on the big picture are entirely different than the 'child' picture :) – Tim Post Nov 20 at 15:50

These are entirely Photoshop. The top one is Photoshop + lots of planning.

The easiest recursive picture you could do with no Photoshop involves monitor wallpaper. Take a picture of your monitor plus some of the area around it. Set that picture as your desktop wallpaper. Repeat until pleased.

If you want to do something closer to the top picture I suggest borrowing techniques from the film industry's green screens and using an item of an alternate color (such as bright green) as the container for other pictures within the picture.

In the top picture the photo the man is holding would be a bright green piece of paper in real life so you could more easily replace it in Photoshop later.
