What's the accepted practice for keeping spare batteries around and maintaining long life?

  • Charge them and then put them in your bag?
  • Keep them on the charger and plugged into the wall?

I've done both but don't know which way is better in the long term.

Most battery chargers stop charging once the battery is at full capacity. There is little difference then between putting them in your bag or leaving them on the charger.

I use battery grips on my cameras, so I'm constantly rotating batteries, but the spares always live in my bag where I'll look for them should I need them.
