I'm looking for a backpack that will take a DSLR a 14" laptop and some other stuff. I'm going on a 2/3 week trip to China and I wan't a camera that Will carry everything I need for a day Trip.

I've done some hunting and so far the top candidates are the LowePro CompuRover and the Tamrac 5549 Adventure 9 The Tamrac is cheaper but the lowepro looks nicer. There is also the Lowepro Fastpack 350 which has the advantage of being much cheaper but looks rubbish.

Does anyone know of any good alternatives? The Lowepro is the nicest looking but it's also the most expensive, and is a bit too big for UK budget airlines (I'm willing to bet I could get it through though)...

Does anyone have any other suggestions? Or is willing to recommend one of the above?

If you are going to invest, you may as well go with LowePro. I'm not big on brands, but I can say that their bags are known to be the most durable and well thought out.

Unless you won't be staying in the same place for long, i.e. you have to bring your laptop and all of your gear with you everywhere, I'd recommend getting a top loading waist bag too .. and leave the backpack at the hotel. I usually go with body and two prime lenses, getting me from 35 - 50 - 85 MM in any kind of light. My primary bag is messenger style.

It almost always holds true, the more you bring .. the less you shoot.

Any suggestion for a good messenger bag? – Omar Feb 1 at 23:22
@omar: One that fits the gear you really need to carry. I got mine from Mossimo which easily handles a larger body with battery grip, a couple of extra primes, one speedlight and some triggers, SD cards, etc. Its also got a clip that attaches to my belt to keep it from swinging around. A little bit of digging through some book / department stores should yield something adequate. – Tim Post Feb 2 at 10:40
